Fire at MTL microwave station affects telecoms network

Mobile phone network provider TNM announced that they were experiencing a network outage affecting parts of Lilongwe and surrounding districts. In the North Mzuzu and surrounding districts are also affected, following the fire at MTL building which is next to TNM’s network monitoring centre.

 

‘As a result, both voice and data services are affected. Our engineers are working to restore normal service as as soon as possible,” said TNM in a statement on social media.

 

Trans-World Radio (TWR) also reported that the fire has “automatically affected TWR's signal to most transmitter sites making it off air. Please bear with TWR in this emergency. Many other broadcasters are equally affected.”


The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
