The Police to citizen ratio is expected to be reduced after the pass out parade of new recruits to take place at Limbe Police training school in Limbe, Blantyre.

According to National Police spokesperson Rhoda Manjolo, over 1874 new police officers will graduate at the event which will see other long serving officers being awarded with presidential medals.

Manjolo said this is the highest number of recruits ever to graduate in the history of Malawi Police.
“Previously the police to citizen ratio has not that good and the coming in of these police officers will help us in curbing the problem of security in the country,” said Manjolo.

Out of the graduates 1,213 are males while 576 are females. Manjolo said the Malawi Police has appealed for the new police officers to be disciplined.

The recruits have been trained from Limbe, Mlangeni and Mtakataka Police training schools.

“The President will also award 100 more officers who have served the Malawi police well with medal,” Manjolo said.
