The principal secretary for disaster Paul Chiunguzeni made the remarks in lilongwe when he recieved donation from airtel Malawi amounting to K4 million raised from ndifeamodzi sms promotion.
Chiunguzeni said what airtel has done is commendable and will go along way in helping families that are now working on going back their places after the water have subsided.
He said at the moment the department is working on providing plastic shits for the victims to use in building their houses again.
The PS said in some cases the department would build houses but that can not be for every household. He said there were more than 70,000 housedholds displaced in Nsanje District only and to build for all will be very expensive.
Chiunguzeni added that the recovery program also includes provision of seed for the victims to plant in Dambo areas.
And in his remarks Airtel Chief Commercial Officer Charles Kamoto said the 'ndife amodzi campaign' managed to raise 500,000 but as promised his company has added K3.5 million to make it K4 million.
The money has since been divided among the department of disaster management affairs and Malawi Red Cross Society that are stiill working on recovery for the flood victims.
