Ntafu, who served in various cabinet portfolios under President Bakili Muluzi’s UDF regime, died while being treated at the Mwawiwathu in Blantyre after the salon car he was driving collided with a lorry at Chatha in Chileka on his way to the airport.
Deputy Spokesperson for Police in the Southern Region Widson Nhlane confirmed of the accident but he did not divulge more information into the matter.
“What happened is that he was driving a salon car heading to Chileka Airport and his car collided with a lorry at Chatha,” Nhlane said.
“He died while receiving treatment at Mwawiwathu Hospital in Blantyre.”
The Police are yet to find out the cause of the accident as investigations are still underway.
At the time of his death Ntafu, the country’s renowned neurosurgeon was serving as Technical Advisor in the Ministry of Health after taking a break from politics.
He is survived by a wife Evelyn, who is Malawi Electoral Commissioner, and children.
He died while his wife was away in Egypt to observe Parliamentary Elections.
