Confirming the developments, Councillor for Kandeu Ward, Franes Kampeni said the two were stepped upon as they carried out farm work in their farms.

District Medical Officer for Ntcheu District Hospital, Emily Jenya said the two suffered minor injuries and are currently receiving medical attention.

However Director of Parks and Wildlife, Brighton Kumchedwa said they have made good progress in driving the animals back into the forest.

"As of Wednesday, we have driven the animals for a distance close to 30Km towards Thuma Forest Reserve," he said.

The herd of five elephants were first spotted on Sunday in Kansapato Village in TA Ganya and are believed to have escaped from Thuma Forest in Dedza.
