Police in Zomba have impounded 18 motorcycles for various traffic offences in the district.
Zomba Police Station spokesperson, Patricia Sipiliano, said the offences ranged from riding without wearing crush helmet, exceeding carrying capacity and using unregistered motorcycles.
According to Sipiliano, the traffic checks operation is aimed at flushing out operators who are contravening road traffic rules and regulations.
The riders are expected to appear in court soon to answer charges levelled against them.
