World Vision Malawi bails out students with special needs

As one way of supporting students with special needs and disabilities, World Vision Malawi has donated items worth approximately K332 million to the Able to Thrive project, which is under the Ministry of Education.

Making the donation in Lilongwe, World Vision’s National Director, Francis Dube, said they are committed to ensuring education opportunities for all and the donation will target students with special needs in Mzimba, Kasungu, Dowa, Ntchisi and Dedza districts.

Principal Secretary for Basic Education, Rachel Chimbwete Phiri, said the donation aligns with the Malawi 2063’s goal of ensuring inclusive education as there are over 100,000 students with special needs and disabilities across primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions in the country.

The donated items include 342 wheelchairs, 50 Bluetooth speakers and projectors, 38 magnifying glasses, and 12 SD cards, among others.
