The World Food Programme (WFP) and the National Food Reserve Agency (NFRA) have launched a Humanitarian Staging Area for disaster preparedness and response at Bangula in Nsanje.
The area, which consists of various facilities including offices, a warehouse, and a drone transportation system, will act as a center for disaster response efforts in the area.
Speaking to MBC, World Food Programme Deputy Country Director, Simon Dehnere, expressed excitement about the refurbished facilities, stating that they will enhance operations at the staging area.
National Food Reserve Agency Chief Executive Officer, George Macheka, commended the facility as a game-changer for disaster response.
Macheka added that the site has already trained over 80 participants.
“The facility will act as a hub where activities aimed at lessening human suffering will be taking place. Various activities, including logistical operations, rescue efforts, and training for health personnel on swift emergency response, will be conducted here,” he said.
