An organisation called Waste Advisers is pursuing a recycling initiative which they have branded “Building Better! Post–COVID Economic Recovery Through a National Recycling Campaign Project” with the support of the European Union.
The organisation’s Project Officer, Geoffrey Mphangamo, says this is a four-year project that serves as part of a Covid-19 recovery plan and is being implementated in the cities of Blantyre, Zomba, Lilongwe, and Mzuzu.
Mphangamo says the overall objective of the project is to help improve the economy of the country.
“We will have ‘Green Arena’ where entrepreneurs will pitch their innovative ideas directly to potential investors. Participants will be evaluated not just on the viability of their business proposals, but also on their potential impact on environmental sustainability,” he said.
He then said they will have other engagements through ‘Think Tank Sessions’ which will address various challenges, solutions, and opportunities in waste management in the city of Lilongwe on March 27, 2024.
A similar engagement was also held in Blantyre earlier this year.
Waste Advisers focuses on brokering healthy relationships between stakeholders in the waste management value chain, and developing capacity in the areas that are lacking, among others.
