VACANCIES

Applications are invited from candidates who are suitably qualified and experienced to fill the following vacant positions at Malawi Broadcasting Corporation:

1. PRINCIPAL PRODUCER

The job purpose is to supervise the production of programmes, ensuring all programmes are of high quality.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

i. Coordinates all aspects of programme production in and outside the studios,

ii. Conducts research for programme content and develops program concepts.

iii. Writes or edits scripts before production or post-production.

iv. Researches or supports producers in developing new programme proposals or improving on existing programmes.

v. Coordinates outside broadcasting (OB) in collaboration with studio production teams,

vi. Edits programme scripts for subordinates.

vii. Produces and presents programmes.

viii. Supervises and manages the post-production process.

ix. Coordinate special events programmes.

x. Identifies new talents and creativity in line with MBC programmes.

Qualifications and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism or any related field. Three years of television work experience.

Able to multi-task and manage time well.

Experience using television equipment, such as cameras and microphones, experience in developing programme proposals.

Relevant skills in communication, leadership, and creativity.

Experience in research is an added advantage.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Highly engaging, versatile, and adaptable.

The ability to keep up with industry trends in the media landscape.

2. PRINCIPAL ONLINE CONTENT EDITOR

The job purpose is to create and manage content for MBC digital media platforms

Duties and Responsibilities:

i. Develop and implement the MBC Digital Media Strategy.

ii. Timely editing of digital content.

iii. Proofreads, re-structures and edits articles by content creators.

iv. Ensures MBC digital platforms are frequently updated with new content.

V. Designs social media marketing strategies and campaigns for MBC.

Vi. Works with the Public Relations and Consumer Awareness Manager to develop and maintain a consistent brand tone, image, and style.

Vii. Reviews proofreads, and edits completed content from news, programmes and marketing before posting.

Viii. Determines the optimal times to post content and manages the scheduling tools.

IX. Coordinates with the content creators to ensure timely delivery of content.

X. Reviews and interprets social analytics to measure and guide the effectiveness of MBC digital platforms.

XI. Generates analytic reports and social media feedback for presentation and review of management.

XII. Keeps abreast of current trends, advancements in technology, and new social media platforms and tools.

Qualifications and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism or any related field. A minimum of three years experience as a social media editor.

Good knowledge of social scheduling and analytics tools such as Hootsuite, Google Analytics, and Buffer.

Familiarity with all major social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Snapchat, and YouTube.

Strong knowledge and proficiency in design tools such as Photoshop and Canva are advantageous.

Exceptional sales and marketing abilities.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills Highly engaging, versatile, and adaptable.

The ability to keep up with industry trends and new social networks.

Experience in Marketing is an added advantage.

3. ONLINE EDITOR – CURRENT AFFAIRS

The job purpose is to produce and present programmes

Duties and Responsibilities:

i. Implements the MBC Digital Media Strategy.

ii. Reviews proofreads, and edits completed content from news, programmes and marketing before posting.

iii. Creates online content for posting.

iv. Monitors MBC digital media platforms feedback and drafts provided responses for posting.

v. Updates MBC digital platforms with current content daily.

vi. Ensures news articles are posted on time in line with the editorial standards.
vii. Coordinates the content creators in the field to ensure the timely delivery of content.

Qualifications and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism or its equivalent or Diploma in Communications or Journalism with three years experience in managing social media platforms.

Knowledge of digital marketing is an added advantage. Familiarity with major social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Snapchat, and YouTube including website management.

Sound knowledge and proficiency in desktop designing tools such as Photoshop and Canva is advantageous.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

The ability to keep up with industry trends and new social networks.

4. SENIOR PRODUCERS – CURRENT AFFAIRS (2 POSITIONS)

The job purpose is to produce and present programs

Duties and Responsibilities:

i. Produces special current affairs programmes and documentaries.

ii. Presents live and recorded programmes.

iii. Produces two weekly programmes.

iv. Conducts research for programme content and develops programme concepts.

v. Manages logistics of getting resource persons and equipment for programme production.

vi. Manages cast and studio guests.

vii. Collects programme content from the field.

viii. Programme script writing.

ix. Ensures programmes are broadcast on time and consistently.

Qualifications and Experience:

Degree in Communications Journalism, or any related field or Diploma in Communication, Journalism or any other related field with over three years experience in Television Production.

Proven experience in producing live current affairs discussion programmes

Experience in programme proposal development.

Experience in script writing.

Must have clear understanding of programme production phases to ensure quality and professionalism.

5. BUSINESS REPORTER

The successful candidate will be responsible for producing and presenting well-researched business news.

Duties and Responsibilities:

i. Coordinates the production and reporting of business news

ii. Presents current affairs programmes as and when required

iii. Sub-edits business news items and inserts.

iv. Supports production teams in packaging news for production.

v. Writes weekly special business news reports.

vi. Formulates news headlines.

Qualifications and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, Economics or any other related field or Diploma in Journalism with five years experience in business reporting.

6. BUSINESS EDITOR

The purpose of the job is to ensure that MBC business news and programmes are of the highest standards at all times

Duties and Responsibilities:

i. Edits and compiles business stories for news bulletins and online platforms.

ii. Edits scripts for business programmes.

iii. Conceptualises business stories and programme ideas.

iv. Works with reporters and business programme producers to improve content ensuring it flows.

Qualifications and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, Economics or any other related field with three years experience or

Diploma in Journalism with over five years experience in business reporting;

7. RADIO DRAMA PRODUCERS (6-MONTHS PROJECT)

The key purpose of the job will be to support the Development Broadcasting Unit of MBC with Awareness Campaign activities for some of its current projects which will run up to March 2024.

Duties and Responsibilities:

i. Script writing or works with script writers for the radio plays.

ii. Vets and approves scripts from external scriptwriters.

iii. Identifies and manages actors.

iv. Produces quality radio drama programmes for broadcast.

v. Collects programme material for production.

vi. Assists in the production of Public Service Announcements (PSA) and audio

vii. Spots writes quarterly reports.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Drama, Communications or its equivalent from a reputable institution.

• At least three years experience in Radio Drama script writing.
At least three years in radio production.

Must have a love of story-telling and drama.

Must be a confident communicator with strong writing skills.

• Must have excellent editorial judgement and be able to direct the action in a drama studio.

Must have strong interpersonal skills.

Must have excellent time management and planning skills.
