Top performing teachers awarded

A total of 204 best primary and secondary school teachers and 28 teacher educators from Teachers Training Colleges and Teachers Training Institutions have been awarded for their excellent work and valuable contributions in “shaping the minds of future generations” in the country.

Apart from monetary prizes, 48 of the best teachers, headteachers, and teacher educators received a bicycle each from World Bicycles Relief and tablets.

Director of Teacher Education and Development in the Ministry of Education, Zizwa Msukuma, pointed out that teachers face numerous challenges but still give out their best to ensure that learners get the best education.

“By listening to their voices, we can build resilient and equitable education systems that serve the public good,” said Msukuma.

Malawi has a combined teacher deficit of secondary and primary school teachers of 65,000, with one teacher teaching 67-150 learners per class.
