Tobacco Commission (TC) has urged tobacco farmers to follow new farming technologies for increased production.
Spokesperson for TC, Telephorus Chigwenembe, made the remarks when the commission visited tobacco farmers at Elangeni in Mzimba to find out if they have started uprooting tobacco stalks in their farms.
The Commission says this has the ability to prevent transferring of diseases and pathogens to the next farming season.
Anna Phiri, a mother of three says by following this methodology on her 1 hectare of Land, she managed to harness 23 bales and made around K6 million during this year’s selling season.
Meanwhile, TC says Tobacco Industry Act regulatory orders will be enforced on growers who fail to comply with the requirement.
