A high-level national consultative workshop for the United Nations Summit of the Future is currently underway in Lilongwe.
During the workshop, government officials and their development partners will discuss issues pertaining to the forthcoming UN Summit, scheduled to be held in the United States of America this September.
Germany and Namibia will act as co-facilitators for the Summit of the Future, which will take place on the side-lines of the United Nations General Assembly.
In her opening remarks, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nancy Tembo, said that the summit would assist Malawi in realigning its efforts towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), promoting science and innovation, and encouraging youth participation in development.
The minister highlighted the fact that the world is currently at 17 percent in achieving the 2030 SDGs, emphasising the need for realignment as Malawi is not on the right track to meet these goals.
