Communities in Nsanje have said the Social Cash Transfer (SCT) is helping restore what they lost during Cyclone Freddy.
Alumenda Kushitera from Nthukuso Village of Traditional Authority Malemia said he has bought iron sheets in readiness for the construction of a house which was destroyed when the cyclone hit.
Kushitera, a family man with five children, has on two occasions received money amounting to K300,000 under SCT.
Widow Linily Richard from Mtemangawa Village also shared a similar narrative.
Mphatso Donsa,32, from Mtemangawa Village said he is molding bricks to build his house after he bought 10 iron sheets using SCT money.
“My house was washed away by Cyclone Freddy in 2023. I want to build a 20 iron sheet house, thanks to social cash transfer,” he added.
Nsanje District Social Welfare Officer responsible for SCT, Abdulrazak Duwa, said the district council is happy with the positive changes registered by those that have been enrolled.
He said the district has over 7,000 beneficiaries.
