SAFER INTERNET DAY COMMEMORATED

Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) Director General, Daud Suleman, has called for a multi-stakeholder approach in protecting children from cyber-bullying.

He was speaking in Lilongwe on Tuesday during the commemoration of this year’s Safe Internet Day.

Statistics show that one out of three children experience cyberbullying in their lifetime.

Suleman said thus far, his institution is working with the Ministry of Education in reviewing the education curriculum at primary school level to include digital lessons and to provide access to digital skills at secondary school level.

The MACRA expressed delight with the Data Protection Law that the President has recently assented to, which will help to protect the privacy and data of internet users.

The day is being commemorated under the theme ‘Inspiring change: Making a difference in managing influence and navigating change’.
