With support from the European Union, Parliament has launched a two-and-a-half-year Phungu Wanga project to tackle issues of low citizen participation in parliamentary proceedings and insufficient capacity among members of Parliament (MPs).
The project also seeks to empower citizens to engage with their MPs to improve governance and representation across Rumphi, Mchinji, Balaka districts and the Malawi Parliament.
Speaking after launching the project in Mchinji, speaker of Malawi Parliament Catherine Gotani Hara said the project will empower people in communities to be close to Parliament and understand how it works.
The project is being implemented by Save the Children and Centre for Civil Society Strengthening, in collaboration with Malawi Parliament.
