Mzuzu City Hammers win Supa 5 Bonanza

Mzuzu City Hammers are this year’s Supa 5 Bonanza champions after finishing with six points and a superior goal difference from four games.

They were top of the table at the end of the bonanza on Sunday, which was taking place at Karonga Stadium in Karonga District.

Moyale Barracks finished second while Baka City and Karonga United finished on third and fourth positions respectively.

Last year’s Northern Region top performer in the TNM Super League, Chitipa United, finished bottom of the table with two points.

Chairperson for the organising committee, Donnex Chilonga, expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the bonanza, saying the tournament has given Northern region teams a chance to prepare before the TNM Super League kicks off.

“This tournament has exposed the weaknesses that our teams have before the season kicks off. This will give them an opportunity to work on the weaknesses so that when the season starts, no team from the north shall be relegated,”said Chilonga.

The organising Committee has since appealed to the corporate world to sponsor the tournament next year, indicating that the teams have played a free bonanza in the 2024 edition.
