Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS) has distributed K50,000 to each of the 1500 food-insecure households in the area of Traditional Authority Mabilabo in Mzimba District.
MRCS spokesperson, Felix Washoni, says they are implementing a three-month K396 million Hunger Appeal Project that will assist over 7500 people in Mzimba, with support from the International Federation of Red Cross and Saud Arabia Red Crescent.
Maria Kumwenda, one of the beneficiaries, says the support will enable her to pay school fees and purchase learning materials for her grandchildren.
About 500 households will also receive sweet potato vines and vegetable seeds.
