The Malawi Revenue Authority says it will continue innovating and adhering to all international practices in delivering its mandate.
The Board Chairperson of the tax collecting authority, Vizenge Kumwenda, made the remarks during the International Customs Day commemoration in Lilongwe.
Kumwenda said MRA carries a huge responsibility of collecting revenue that the government uses in advancing various development projects across the country as such it will keep innovating to serve its clients professionally.
“We will continue to innovate. MRA is also key in trade facilitation. Our interest is that in the discharge of our duties, trade should flourish so that as we enhance production and exports, we should be able to collect more. We also have a cultural programme in the institution called MRA4Change. Through this programme we are doing business unusual in serving the clients,” said Kumwenda.
He further disclosed that MRA in liaison with Civil Aviation will enhance its surveillance of the country’s borders against smugglers.
On his part, Deputy Director General of the Malawi Bureau of Standards, Thomas Sengani Malunje, said there’s strong collaboration with MRA which has helped that goods being imported into the country should only be of high quality. He said that currently, all processes are handled timely through the Asycuda World System.
Several institutions received awards from MRA for their cooperation and support of MRA’s work. They include ministries of Agriculture, Trade and Health.
