MPs, councillors worried over delayed CDF funding

Members of Parliament and councillors in Zomba have expressed worry over delayed K225 million Constituency Development Funding (CDF), among several other fundings that the council is yet to receive despite closing bank statement for the 2023/2024 financial year.

Speaking on Thursday during a full council meeting, Member of Parliament for Zomba Lisanjala, William Susuwele Banda, said some contractors were pestering the MPs, asking for their payments.

“May I bring to the attention of the house that the council has not received CDF for the fourth and last quarter  and since the financial year ended in March, what has the council done to ensure we have this funding? There is a lot of talking in our communities particularly people who were employed by contractors and have not been paid their wages,” Banda said.

The parliamentarian asked the house to map the way forward and fight for the funding.

Councillor Blazio Chinthenga concurred, saying they deserve some answers.

Director of Finance for Zomba District Council, Ellen Kayira assured the house that all outstanding funds that the council did not receive will be channelled to the district by June this year.

Zomba District Council is yet to receive K225 million for CDF, K27 million for boreholes while DDF is K49,042,253.

Kayira said the delay was due to technical problems.
