What was a mere dream for Nkhata Bay-based Francisco Mbotwa has turned to reality after winning K1million in Triephornia Mpinganjira’s youths business ideas competition.
Mbotwa, a smallscale fish monger, submitted a business idea of expanding his existing trade through purchase of a fishing canoe and nets to venture into large scale fishing, before opening big wholesale shops across the country.
“I started buying fish from the fishermen and selling it. However, due to little capital, my business was just hand to mouth,” Mbotwa explained with excitement.
Mbotwa, a certificate in Financial Accounting holder, has since promised prudent use of the money.
Mpinganjira has said her plan is to make the initiative a long term project to help many youths.
The “Kuthandiza omwe alibe kuthekera kupita patsogolo” project will run until December this year, targeting 18 youths with business ideas, who will be awarded K1 million each.
