MITC counts US-Africa summit opportunities

The county’s one stop investment and trade centre for exporters and investors, Malawi Investment and trade centre (MITC), has described the 16th U.S – Africa Business Summit as a platform that has the possibility of helping Malawian producers access the big American market, something which has been lacking for years.

MITC Chief executive officer, Paul Kwengwere, said that the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) initiative, which is a gateway for increasing exports from Malawi to the United States of America, has been underutilised and he expressed hope of a turn around in prospects following the summit.

“We go back home with lots of leads that will lead to different investments in the country,we have had good discussions not only with Americans but even with the Malawian diaspora, they are interested to invest in Malawi and several businesses have expressed interest, it looks good,” said Kwengere

The summit, which started on the 6 May, 2024, ended on 9 May,2024 and was held under the theme “U.S-Africa Business partnering for Sustainable Success”.
