Minister of Tourism encourages reading culture to boost creative industry

As one way of supporting the creative industry in Malawi, Minister of Tourism, Vera Kamtukule, attended the launch of a book titled “The Humble Treasure” by a 13-year-old author, Prince Chinyamunyamu.

Speaking at the event in Lilongwe, Kamtukule said Malawi 2063, the country’s development blueprint, is youth centric and therefore embracing the culture of reading and writing will boost the creative industry and help in creating a wealthy and prosperous nation.

According to Kamtukule, parents and guardians should encourage children to embrace the reading culture, which enhances innovativeness and creativity.

On his part, Chinyamunyamu said there is a need to improve the reading culture among children since books promote critical thinking.
