Media practitioners from the Southern Region have been urged to take the lead in informing the public about the rollout of the Agricultural Commercialisation Project (AGCOM 2).
Director of Agricultural Extension Services at the Ministry of Agriculture (DAES), Pearson Soko, made the appeal in Blantyre during a sensitisation workshop about the programme for journalists from Southern Region Press Club (SRPC).
“This initiative will transform the country in line with the Malawi 2063 vision as pillar number one emphasises on agricultural productivity and commercialisation,” said Soko.
SRPR president, Ronald Amosi, commended AGCOM for organising the workshop, which he said is in line with the club’s plan of establishing a cooperative that will participate in the project.
With close to K600 billion grant from the World Bank, AGCOM 2 will provide matching grants to new producer organisations and micro and small medium enterprises which are working with farmers to increase production and improve quality and creation of markets.
