Mangochi residents petition Chakwera over rising water levels

A group of concerned citizens in Mangochi has petitioned President Dr Lazarus Chakwera and Vice President Dr Saulos Chilima to intervene on the issue of rising water levels that have disrupted lives in the district.

During a press briefing held in the district, one of the concerned citizens said they believe that the flooding was due to inadequate water flow at Kamuzu Barrage in Liwonde.

On his part, Traditional Authority Mapila said he was convinced that someone is closing the bridge deliberately.

“Go to Liwonde Barrage and observe both sides, you will notice the difference in the water levels, or ask yourself why are people of Zalewa and the rest of that area not complaining of floods?” Queried T/A Mapila.

The citizens have also called upon DoDMA to conduct a quick assessment to help those affected by the floods.
