From May 20-24, Malawi will host a five-day Population Conference in Lilongwe, which will attract at least 600 delegates including researchers, scientists, and scholars from various universities from African countries.
The conference seeks to share information on how the increasing population affects social, economic, and political development in African countries.
President Dr Lazarus Chakwera will officially preside over the conference, according to Minister of Information Moses Kunkuyu.
The event is expected to boost the tourism sector, with Minister of Finance Simplex Chithyola Banda expressing optimism that it will raise Malawi’s profile and explore solutions to challenges posed by population growth.
Banda has also urged the media to raise awareness about population issues and their economic impact.
