The 2023 National ICT Survey Report on access and use of Information, Communication, and Technology (ICT) has revealed that internet usage by households and individuals has escalated from 62% to 68%, with a decrease in radio and television usage from 46% in 2019 to 42% in 2023.
Speaking during the launch of the report in Lilongwe, Director of Economic Regulations at MACRA, Andrew Nyirenda, said the increase in the usage of the internet shows how the country is making strides in embracing digitalisation.
Nyirenda highlighted that the findings will help MACRA and other development partners to formulate policies that will help increase access to digital services in the country and align themselves with Malawi 2063 agenda of ensuring that everyone has free access to internet services.
Commissioner of Statistics at the National Statistics Office (NSO), Shelton Kanyanda, said a lot needs to be done to increase access to digital services.
