Kawale Police nets Mozambican for pangolin possession

Kawale Police is keeping in custody a Mozambican national, Felix Matiyasi, 29, for being found in possession of a live pangolin without permit.

Kawale Police’s publicist, Mavuto Phiri, said they received a tip from well-wishers that the suspect was selling the protected animal and they swiftly sent detectives who apprehended him and seized the animal.

Matiyasi is answering a charge of being found in possession of listed species without permit and is expected to appear before court on Monday, September 9, 2024 while the specimen has been handed over to the Department of Wildlife and National parks.

Matiyasi hails from John Village, Traditonal Authority Makanja, Chizolowondo district in Mozambique.
