Surprisingly, appearing on the list are some of the country’s leading and influential organisations such as Consumers Association of Malawi (Cama) of John Kapito, Institute for Policy Interaction (IPI) of Rafiq Hajat, Women and Law Society in Southern Africa (Wilsa) Malawi whose leader is Seodi White, Creative Centre for Community Mobilisation (Crecom) and also Malawi Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS (MANET+).

According to the NGO board, publication of the list was meant to serve as a notice by urging the concerned NGOs to pay the overdue fees by 31st October 2017.

“Failing which the Board will take necessary action as provided under Section 23 (1) of the NGO Act of 2001,” reads the statement in part.

The Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) Act 2001 Section 18 (1) mandates NGO Board of Malawi to register and regulate operations of NGOs in Malawi.
