SRWB donates construction materials to revamp dispensary in Zomba

Sothern Region Water Board – SRWB has donated construction materials that will help to renovate outreach clinic forestry dispensary at Chawe in Zomba district.

Speaking during the material handover ceremony SRWB Chief Executive Officer – CEO Eng. Robert Hanjahanja said the donation is part of the institution corporate social responsibility. He said SRWB has an obligation to support the people they serve not only in water supply but also to help in other means.


“We know we have a corporate social responsibility for the community that gives us business because without them, Southern Region Water Board cannot exist. As a company that is supposed to be profit making, we appreciate the need to give back even in small ways like we have done,” said Hanjahanja.


The CEO added that SRWB as a water utility company, its desire is to contribute to creation of a healthy nation which is one of the strategic objectives for the Ministry of Health.


Receiving the construction materials, Zomba District Commissioner Emmanuel Bambe commended SRWB as the donation will go a long way in helping people around Chawe as they will no longer be walking long distances to seek medical treatment.


“SRWB has demonstrated a good gesture, this will help to improve health situation in Zomba district. We will now definitely revamp the facility that will be helping a population of about 20 thousand people,” said Bambe adding that the facility will ease overcrowding in other health centres in the district.


The construction materials that SRWB has donated to Zomba District Hospital Office include 38 corrugated iron sheets, 20 pieces of timber, double doors and various wire and roofing nails in different inches. The materials have cost SRWB over half a million Malawi Kwacha.


Southern Region Water Board – SRWB was established under the Waterworks Act of 1995. It is mandated to ensure supply of potable water in the Southern Region except Blantyre City.
