Banda said government is expecting the results to assist in the formulation of different policies.

As government, we will be waiting to get information from them to help in formulating policies in the country. This is going to assist in solving some of the challenges that we face as a country,” she said.
Commenting on the development, University of Malawi, Vice Chancellor Professor John Kalenga Saka says the academic is grateful to government for coming up with research awards.
“This is a momentous occasion because these individuals are pursuing various post graduate programs and extra support towards their research is very necessary. And when government through the Ministry of Education provides such, it shows commitment that is there on their part to help improve various research departments in the country. This will also help our post graduate students to finish their studies in two to three years’ time,” he said.
One of the awardees John Kuyokwa from Chancellor College said he is delighted to be one of the first beneficiaries for the award.
“The study will help in transforming the country in secondary education especially to do with adolescent girls. As one of the pioneer recipients of this research grant, I will encourage other students to choose topics that are relevant to Malawi,” said Kuyokwa.
The Ministry has since promised to increase the budget to accommodate more students for quality research studies. At the end, Research Dissemination Conferences will be conducted to where findings will be made available to the public.
