According to Business Development Manager for Farmers Organisation Limited, Sangani Harawa, Sunflower has the potential to become one of the country’s major forex earner.

Harawa made the remarks in the area of Sub Traditional Authority Chisinga in Kasungu where the organization is implementing a project aimed at increasing sunflower productivity.

“Sunflower has great potential because it has a lot of industrial uses one of them being a critical ingredient in edible oil manufacturing. The number of oil processing companies in the country is increasing which means the demand for sunflower and soya oil and other legumes is increasing too, offering a good opportunity for farmers to adopt this crop,” said Harawa

He said fields that have used certified seeds have high plant germination with health plants that can lead to a bumper harvest.

Farmers Organisation Limited is implementing a Nyonga Pack for legumes and oil seeds in partnership with Pana Seed supplying sunflower and soya seeds to showcase the impact of using quality seeds on yield.
