Japan commits to support Malawi

The Japanese Government has expressed its commitment to continue supporting Malawi in human resource development of the country’s technocrats including engineers, ITC personnel, and teachers among others.

Japanese Ambassador to Malawi, Kae Yanagisawa was speaking in Mzuzu during her official engagements in the North.

She said the relationship between Malawi and Japan has enabled the two countries to share and benefit from each other in a number of areas including social, business, cultural and infrastructure development.

“It is true that we train various experts in the country; we do that in realization that they would put to practice whatsoever they learn for the development of the nation,” said Her Excellency Yanagisawa.

Equipping Malawian technocrats with relevant skills in engineering, education, Information Communication Technology complements to the trade of steel products, transport machinery, and agricultural products.

Usually these technicians are drawn from government departments, NGOs and Parastatals which according to the Japanese Ambassador to Malawi Kae Yanagisawa is helping them to enhance their operation.

Ambassador Yanagisawa further said she is pleased to note that the Malawi government is exporting a lot of agricultural products to Japan while urging the nationals to continue exporting quality products.

“There are a lot of Malawian produce in Japan; so is the case in Malawi where a lot of product from Japan are also available and what is needed to ensure is that we maintain our standards, quality and quantity,” she noted.

Furthermore the Government of Japan offers scholarships to Malawian nationals who wish to study at Japanese universities as research students at various levels of their education.

The gesture is to assist those who wish to promote the friendship between Japan and Malawi through their studies in Japan, and to also contribute to the development of both countries and the world at large.

Malawi-Japan bilateral relations have been in existence for years with Japan establishing its embassy in Lilongwe in 2008.
