The health facility was grappling with several challenges as it caters for a population of over 150,000 which led to frequent drug stock outs. Dr. Lucy Kachapila of World Vision Malawi says as an organization they felt obliged to donate the supplies to Ngabu Health Centre because it understands the importance of having a healthy population which plays a significant role in the development of any country.

“One of the priorities that we have in this country is that we should reach out to children and women, these are the vulnerable groups in this country. Our target is that we should achieve the sustainable development goals. One of the key areas we are working on is child survival but one area we think we need to intensify efforts is maternal health. So we believe this is an area we need to push in more resources because if the children are well cared for, they are the future of this country,” said Kachapila.

In his remarks District Health Officer for Chikwawa Dr. Stalin Zimkanda said the donation was timely and it will help the health facility serve patients with utmost care.

“Sometimes the medical supplies we do get are not enough due to the high population we serve. This donation will go a long way in improving health service delivery at the center,” said Zimkanda.

The medical supplies included patients monitoring system, gloves, laboratory test tubes, gynecological set, chlorine, mattress covers among others. World Vision Malawi has reached over 3 million children across the country with basic health services.
