According to MEC Chairperson Dr. Jane Ansah, Ras Chikomeni did not have nominators from 19 out of the country’s 28 districts.
Chikomeni did not also pay the Mk2million nomination fee, which Dr. Ansah said was against Section 45 Subsection 1 of the Republican Constitution.
“For these reasons, we cannot accept your papers. But should you meet the requirements, you are free to resubmit them any day and any time before the closing day on Friday,” said Ansah.
Ras Chikomeni was not available for interviews as he was whisked away by the police for security reasons, but one of his advisors, High Priest Nimrod Kushite Chilambe said all Rastafarians across Malawi have united in a resolve to have Ras Chikomeni on the ballot paper.
“We are going back to the drawing board. We feel we still have time to rectify the anomalies. By Friday, we should be able to hand over the papers to MEC,” said Nimrod.
