The donation comes as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility of K50 Million set aside to help improve the education and health sectors in the country.

During the presentation of the books, General Manager for PIL Enwell Kadango said the company realises that an educated and healthy nation is important therefore they will continue complimenting government’s efforts in realising its mandate to educate the masses.

“In order for students to have good education, they must have good learning materials. We believe that the private sector is also responsible in giving out good education to students in all government institutions. This donation will benefit various classes from Form 1 to 3 and we believe the students will take care and make good use of these books,” explained Kadanga.

Kadango appealed to other players in the private sector to help government stock schools with learning materials because both government and private sector can help change the status of schools in the country.

Headmaster for Chilunga CDSS Maluwa Makulu said the timely donation of the books is a commendable gesture towards the school as it will reduce the student-textbook ratio.

“Our students will now spend much time digging into the books that have been provided to them. Students will also develop a reading culture which is very important in the success of every student. We commend PIL, and do not take such a gesture for granted,” beamed Makulu.

Previously, PIL has donated several learning materials in community day secondary schools and medical items in different hospitals across the country.
