During a media briefing on Enhanced Integrated Framework hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism, it was observed that there was need for the fairs to be hosted in a manner that are in line with ideas of promoting export and partnership with foreign countries.
“Discussions with the MCCCI officials are underway on how we can improve the way we host these international trade fairs. We expect these fairs to act as a platform for showcasing our products to the local and international patrons. We are optimistic that the review will bring the desired change,” said one of the officials.
It was discovered during the recent trade fair that Malawians exhibit merchandise that are imported from other countries when the purpose of the fair is to let people from other countries sample local products at the exhibition.
MCCCI Operations Director said the fairs are not necessarily organised for exhibitors to clinch business deals but rather display locally made products.
He added that Malawi as a country cannot be compared to other big economies in the organisation of international trade fairs because of the different economies in different countries.
