Grace Mwale, Chileka Police Public Relation Officer has confirmed the incident.

According to Mwale, the mother who was epileptic took her baby to wash clothes at Likhubula River.

Mwale said there was a young boy at the river who was watching the incident from a distance and after seeing the two drowning he rushed to the village to report the incident.

Upon their arrival, the villagers found both the mother and the daughter already died.

Mwale therefore urged all Malawians to take care of their relatives who are epileptic as the rainy season approaches by making sure that they are accompany by an elder person wherever they go.
