The Bankers’ acting general secretary Freddie Kalonga confirmed the development saying club legend Young Chimodzi has since been appointed to take charge until December.
This follows speculation over the future of the Chirwa-led technical panel comprising assistant coach Itai Nundwe, goalkeeper trainer Sibusiso Padambo and team manager Francis Songo.
Prior to his sacking, Chirwa had blamed the Bankers’ uncharacteristic start to the season to the departure of several key players including top scorer Chawanangwa Kaonga.
According to Kalonga, former Flames coach Chimodzi has been given a free hand to pick his own backroom staff.
Chimodzi, who has been appointed alongside another former club player Lovemore Fazili, confirmed the development.
He disclosed he accepted the offer after a long consideration before meeting the players at the team’s training base on Wednesday.
“I have accepted the offer because I just want to assist the team,” he said.
“The executive committee has been requesting me on several occasions in the past but I was not willing to take that offer because I was busy.”
