It was all smiles for rookies TN Stars when they booked a ticket for Carlsberg Cup’s last 16, thanks to their 2-1 home win over ailing Lilongwe giants Civil Sporting at Kasungu Stadium on Wednesday.

TN Stars scored through Trouble Kalua and Stain Davie while Civil got an equalizer from an own goal.


At Karonga Stadium, Karonga United failed to utilize home advantage when they went down 0-2 to visitors, Mighty Be Forward Wanderers. The Nomads netted through Bongani Kaipa and Mike Kaputa.


Red Lions also marched through the last 16 after beating Nchalo United 2-0 at Kalulu Stadium with Steve Ziba and Boniface Kaulesi netting for the visitors.


While Silver Strikers escaped with a 4-3 away win over Lilongwe Veterans at Malawi Police’s Nankhaka Stadium. The Bankers scored through Prince Phiri and Khuda Muyaba (hat trick) with Maurice Kalidza and Marcus Mwanyongo (brace) reducing the arrears for the Veterans.


Tigers FC reached the last 16 after beating beat Kamuzu Barracks 3-2 at Mulanje Park. Masters Security and Moyale had to bank on penalties to march through to the next round. Masters beat Mzuni FC 8-7 at Dedza Stadium while Moyale beat Nyasa Big Bullets Reserve 6-5 at Kamuzu Stadium.


Blue Eagles progressed to the next round after beating military side MDF Marine 1-0 at Mangochi Stadium.

The battle for quarterfinal tickets will see TN Stars facing off with Red Lion; Wanderers meeting Dwangwa United, who beat Lunar 4-0 at Chitowe Stadium on Tuesday.

Silver will face Mafco while Tigers FC will meet the winner between Mchengautuba and Mighty Ivory. Likewise, Masters will face off with the winner between Cobbe Barracks and Airborne Rangers. The winner between Changalume and Ngolowindo will face off with Moyale FC.


Nyasa Big Bullets host Mitundu FC in the round of 32 at Kamuzu Stadium Thursday afternoon.
