Speaking in MBC Talk to the President, the Malawi leader said he has started his job well and that he is not shaken about what other people wrote to Global Fund.

“I have already contacted some companies and my fellow Presidents,” said the Malawi leader adding that he is making good progress on his new responsibility.

Recently, President Professor Mutharika was appointed Global Fund champion whose duty was to raise money for next year's gathering, however two individuals by the name of Gift Trapence and Timothy Mtambo wrote Global Fund challenging President Mutharika's appointment for their own reasons.

On the other hand, other country’s Civil Society Organizations wrote the Global Fund not to take the letter from Mtambo and Trapence as the views contained in the document do not represent Malawians.

The Joint Civil Society Platform on Health distanced itself from a request made by other civil society organizations asking the Global Fund to withdraw President Mutharika's appointment as Champion for Global Fund 6th replenishment campaign.

In this regard, the joint platform highlighted that issues of HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria must not be interfered with local politics.

According to Global Fund Executive Director Peter Sands, President Prof. Mutharika was chosen because Malawi is striving in the fight of the three pandemics.

The Global Fund is an international development organization which provides support in various sectors in the country.
