Speaking in an interview on teams going into a low form in league and cup matches after winning the cup, the Airtel Top 8 Champions Head Coach, Dereck Nsakakuona told Malawi News Agency on Thursday that the team had plans this season to lift the league and grab other domestic cups.
“It is true that most teams’ form go down after being champions of the league or cups and it has also happened to us once before and we have been experiencing this for quite some time, but we know how to handle the situation now.
“Currently, the league is under way and as of now we have not made any mistake in the league. If we don’t grab the league, it will not be due to over excitement of the Airtel championship or being reckless, but it will just be lack of luck,” Nsakakuona said.
He said as a club, they have forgotten the Airtel Top 8 championship and that their current focus is on the TNM Super League and other cups which they will be competing for, like the FISD Challenge, Carlsberg Cup and others.
He said: “We will not back down as others may think but continue where we left in the Super League. We are not looking backwards as to what we have done but forging ahead. Our win will be a motivation since we have not conceded a goal in the just ended cup.
“We will just go back to our drawing board and do some changes in the area of finishing since it has been hard for us to score but the defensive side is really good.”
Blue Eagles won the Airtel Top 8 after thrashing Nyasa Big Bullets 1-0 with a Stewart Mbunge spot kick goal.
In the TNM Super League, the cops lie sixth with 14 points from nine games. They have a goal difference of seven.
