In a statement, Ministers responsible for Water and Irrigation of the Republic of Malawi and the United Republic of Tanzania signed the documents following the Donors Conference on the Songwe River Basin Development Programme at Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe.
The two Ministers reaffirmed the commitment of the two countries to strengthen their bilateral collaboration and cooperation, in particular to support the implementation of Phase III of the Songwe River Basin Development Programme.
They further reaffirmed to finalize as a matter of urgency, the processes at national level towards ratification of the Convention for the establishment of a joint Songwe River Basin Commission.
The Ministers expressed gratitude to all partners in development for their support and pledges during the Donors Conference and towards successful implementation of the Phase III of the Songwe River Basin Development Programme.
The Donors Conference for the Songwe River Basin Development Programme was held with the aim of raising funds needed to implement projects proposed under Phase III of the Programme.
The conference was held under the theme: Malawi and Tanzania Cooperating to Harness Songwe River Basin Water Resources for Socio-Economic Development.
