Kalirani told Malawi News Agency (Mana) in an interview from his base in South Africa that Football Association of Malawi must appoint a coach who will fit into the country’s long-term vision.

He believes that the national team has never had a coaching problem in the past.

“How can you employ a coach for a year or only two years contract. The problem with most Malawians is that they expect a person to deliver in a short time. In football you have to be patient enough,” queried Kalirani.

Kalirani said FAM must attempt new ideas as their previous, short-term visions, failed to bring the results.

“The problem is not the coach to be honest. I think the problem is the structure.”

“If we get a coach, it must be a coach who will fit into our long term visions. “We must try new things and have long term vision because the short term vision is not working for us. We need progress and new ideas. And we must be transparent about that. Consistency is what we need most just like with the Europeans. They are consistent and also play as a team which we must also do.”

“I am for Mtawali’s plans of building a new team first but I believe if we managed to get a consistent team, it would work for us,” he said.

Many soccer pundits have questioned Mtawali’s philosophy in relying much on young and upcoming players for the Flames.

Recently in Flames assignments Mtawali ignored veteran players like Joseph Kamwendo, Esau Kanyenda, Atusaye Nyondo, Harry Nyirenda by banking his hopes on inexperienced players.
