The recent lukewarm participation of Malawians in the voting process has sparked comments from the general public with others blaming the Malawi Electoral Commission and politicians as contributing to voter apathy.

Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has described the Local Government Elections held in five awards across the country on 25 June as free and fair.

The Democratic Progressive Party has won Tuesday's byelections in Khwawa ward, Karonga South Constituency.

Unofficial results have showed that Charles Mlogera of Malawi Congress Party -MCP is the winner in the Chiwanja Ward in Mzuzu City Constituency by-election.
