“None of the passengers sustained any injuries  and the pilot was taken  to the Likoma Island hospital for medical assessment  after experiencing a minor head abrasion. He has since been discharged,’’ the tuor operator Ulendio said in a statement.

The passengers were identified as Egenco senior personnel--Moses Gwaza, a spokesman of the company and engineer Lyton Chauwa. The name of the pilot is unknown.

Ulendo said they had notified civil aviation authorities for further assessment of the situation.

“We are currently  not in a position to determine the cause of the incident and all protocols are being followed  as stipulated under aviation regulations,” Ulendo said in the statement.

Ulendo has been operating flights to the picturesque Likoma and home to the biggest and oldest Anglical cathedral in southern Africa,  for over 10 years “without incident and remains committed to upholding the most stringest safety requirements.”

Likoma and Chizumulu islands draw tourists because of its scenic beauty.
