Mutharika In Egypt

President Professor Peter Mutharika has arrived in Cairo, Egypt where he is expected to attend the Tripartite Meeting on Free Trade Area (FTA).

The plane carrying the Malawi leader touched ground at around 3:40pm of Tuesday June 9, 2015 at Sharma El Sheikh International Airport.

He was welcomed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation Dr George Chaponda, Malawi’s High Commissioner to Zambia David Bandawe among other top officials.

Speaking on departure at the Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe, Mutharika said this is a very important development as the country will be able to export to about 26 countries in the region.

“Malawi will benefit a lot to this meeting because we are doing a lot of new products and on a reasonable price such as tobacco,” said President Mutharika.

According to a press statement made available to Malawi News Agency (Mana), from Kamuzu Palace by the Presidential Press Officer Gloria Masanza-Kanyangwa reads that Heads of State to the summit are expected to sign the FTA agreement whose aim is to create a large single Free Trade Area.

The statement further indicated that from Egypt, the President will proceed to Pretoria, South Africa for the African Union Summit which will take place from 14; 15 June, 2015.
