President Mutharika made the assurance at Sanjika Palace in Blantyre when he met in audience with over 80 vendors from Zomba and Blantyre with the aim of knowing what they are facing when running businesses. Mutharika said vendors are key players on the socio-economic development of the country.
The Malawi leader further said that government is aware of all the challenges vendors face as they do their businesses.
On this, Professor Mutharika disclosed that his administration will roll out initiatives aimed at enhancing vendors’ economic activities.
“My government will start giving loans to Small Medium Enterprises, the programme will start soon. Our aim is to make life easy for you. You are drivers of the economy,” said Mutharika adding that government is working hard to develop the country even donors have trust in his administration hence they have resumed aid.
During the audience with the vendors, President Professor Mutharika also briefed the vendors development projects his administration is undertaking across the country. Among others President Mutharika said government is constructing modern markets in many townships in the country.
He also further said government is investing in energy sector, which he said is very crucial for socio-economic development of every country in the world. Mutharika also briefed vendors on Malata and Cement subsidy, corruption and identity cards.
On his part, Blantyre Vendors Chairperson Frank Malunga commended the President for granting the audience with vendors from Zomba and Blantyre. He however appealed to the President to give soft loans to vendors so that they can meaningfully help on socio-economic development of the country.
“When you don’t have enough capital it is hard to do business even if you have passion for it,” he said.
