The revelation comes after the fourth suspect in the case former assistant director of tourism at Ministry of Tourism Leonard Kalonga implicated the former president.
Kalonga told the High Court in Lilongwe that he listened to a telephone conversation where businessman Osward Lutepo was assuring Joyce Banda that they were going to find money for campaign.
Kalonga is being charged of defrauding government funds to the tune of K3 billion.
Deputy director for ACB Leneck Matemba said the graft bursting body has overwhelming evidence that the PP founder took part or knew what was happening in the Cashgate scandal.
“We have evidence pointing to the former president that she either took part or that the she was complacent with the running of government affairs.”
“It’s not only the former president but also a lot of people will be brought in to be asked on their involvement in the stealing of the funds.” added Matemba.
When asked on the suggestions from political experts that government facilitate Banda`s extradition, Matemba said the ACB is first making sure that all loopholes are sealed before moving in to do anything.
“We are however not just moving in to arrest anybody who has been mentioned; for example Mrs Banda is a public figure so there is no way we can just do that before doing proper homework but one thing I can assure Malawians is that everyone who took part in the syndicate will be brought to book without looking at their status.” added Matemba.
The former president, who has been outside of this country since losing in the 2014 General elections has insisted that she was not involved in the cash gate, despite being implicated by another Cashgate convict Osward Lutepo, suspect Ralph Kasambara and former Budget Director Paul Mphwiyo.
Lutepo and Kalonga both pleaded guilty of their involvement in the scandal which saw Malawi`s traditional donors pulling out their aid towards the national budget.
A recent survey also revealed that most Malawians believe Joyce Banda‘s loss in the 2014 elections was due to her involvement in the cashgate.
