The donation was made possible through Airtel Money Trust Fund which was formed with the aim of utilizing profits from Airtel Money to reach out to the underpriviledged in society.
Airtel Money Country Director Francis Matseketsa explained that more subscribers to its financial inclusion tool will help in boosting its outreach in corporate social responsibilities.

Matseketsa expressed hope that the money will help in restoring livelihoods of affected communities and observed that after disasters strike, they are usually left without coping mechanisms.
“Without the recovery phase, without rebuilding, without replacing the infrastructure; still the disaster will linger in their heads for many years to come” Matseketsa pointed out.
He reiterated his organization’s commitment to aiding disaster relief efforts in the country.
Among others, the money is meant to help Malawi Red Cross in rebuilding infrastructure such as houses, boreholes toilets affected by the floods.
Red Cross Director of Programmes Hastings Kandaya hailed Airtel Malawi for the support which he explained will help the flood victims adjust to their normal lives.

“This will help us to complete the critical recovery phase of the disaster response and management”. Kandaya said.
Kandaya pointed out that the people are in need of household effects and farm inputs as these were washed away by the flood waters.
Airtel Malawi has contributed a total of 19 Million Kwacha towards disaster relief activities.
